Description

Delightful cinnamon rolls with a playful twist, featuring rich blue swirls, sweet cinnamon, and crunchy chocolate cookies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 23 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate cookies
  • Extra mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and activated yeast; let it sit for about 5 minutes. Stir in sugar, egg, egg yolk, melted butter, and vanilla. Gradually add 2 cups flour and salt, then fold in remaining flour until dough forms. Knead in blue food coloring and let rise for 1 to 1½ hours until doubled.
  2. Make the Filling: In another bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until a paste forms. Fold in crushed chocolate cookies and mini chocolate chips.
  3. Roll & Fill: Once the dough rises, roll into a 14×9-inch rectangle, spread filling evenly, roll tightly, and slice into 12 rolls.
  4. Second Rise & Bake: Place rolls in a greased 9×13-inch dish, let rise for 30–45 minutes, then bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Make Icing: While rolls bake, beat cream cheese and softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk to achieve a smooth texture.
  6. Assemble & Serve: Drizzle icing over warm rolls and finish with crushed chocolate cookies and extra mini chocolate chips.

Notes

For make-ahead, prepare dough and filling the night before and refrigerate overnight. Let warm at room temperature before baking.
