Description
A rich and creamy bread pudding made with sweet bread, dark chocolate, and cream cheese, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf sweet bread (like brioche or challah), torn into 1-inch pieces
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces cream cheese, chilled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chunks or chips, divided
- Unsalted butter, for greasing the baking dish
Instructions
- Prepare the bread by lightly greasing a 9×13 inch baking dish with unsalted butter and scattering the torn bread pieces evenly in the dish.
- Make the custard by whisking together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt in a large bowl until smooth.
- Soak the bread by pouring the custard mixture evenly over the bread and pressing down to ensure absorption. Let sit for at least 30 minutes.
- Add the cream cheese cubes and 1 cup of dark chocolate chunks, stirring gently to distribute.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C), sprinkling the remaining 1/2 cup of dark chocolate on top, for 45-55 minutes until golden brown and slightly jiggly in the center.
- Cool for 15-20 minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Use day-old bread for best texture, and feel free to experiment with different types for unique flavors.
