Description

A rich and creamy bread pudding made with sweet bread, dark chocolate, and cream cheese, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf sweet bread (like brioche or challah), torn into 1-inch pieces
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, chilled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chunks or chips, divided
  • Unsalted butter, for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread by lightly greasing a 9×13 inch baking dish with unsalted butter and scattering the torn bread pieces evenly in the dish.
  2. Make the custard by whisking together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt in a large bowl until smooth.
  3. Soak the bread by pouring the custard mixture evenly over the bread and pressing down to ensure absorption. Let sit for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Add the cream cheese cubes and 1 cup of dark chocolate chunks, stirring gently to distribute.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C), sprinkling the remaining 1/2 cup of dark chocolate on top, for 45-55 minutes until golden brown and slightly jiggly in the center.
  6. Cool for 15-20 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best texture, and feel free to experiment with different types for unique flavors.
