Description

Delicious guilt-free churro bites that are crispy on the outside and chewy within, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon sugar (for coating, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a mixing bowl, whisking until integrated.
  3. Whisk together the melted coconut oil, honey or maple syrup, applesauce, and vanilla extract in another bowl until smooth.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined to create a thick dough.
  5. Scoop small portions of the dough (about a tablespoon) and roll them into bite-sized balls.
  6. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, gently flattening them slightly.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Toss the warm churro bites in cinnamon sugar if desired before serving.

Notes

For a twist, try baking in an air fryer for a crispier exterior in 8-10 minutes.
