Ingredients

- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
- 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Cinnamon sugar (for coating, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine the whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a mixing bowl, whisking until integrated.
- Whisk together the melted coconut oil, honey or maple syrup, applesauce, and vanilla extract in another bowl until smooth.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined to create a thick dough.
- Scoop small portions of the dough (about a tablespoon) and roll them into bite-sized balls.
- Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, gently flattening them slightly.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Toss the warm churro bites in cinnamon sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
For a twist, try baking in an air fryer for a crispier exterior in 8-10 minutes.
