- 1 package of store-bought puff pastry
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: extra powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface until it’s about 1/8 inch thick.
- Cut the pastry into heart shapes using a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
- Make the filling: In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Place a dollop of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each heart, avoiding overfilling.
- Add a few slices of fresh strawberries atop the cream cheese filling.
- Fold the edges of the heart pastry slightly over the filling.
- Brush the edges with the beaten egg.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool for a few minutes, then sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Prepare the cream cheese filling a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator. Chill danishes before baking if your kitchen is warm.
