Description

Delightful cinnamon rolls with a vibrant blue swirl, filled with brown sugar, cinnamon, and chocolate cookie crumbs, topped with a rich cream cheese icing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 23 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate cookies
  • Extra mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Stir in the granulated sugar, egg, egg yolk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix in 2 cups of flour with the salt. Slowly add additional flour until the dough comes together. Add the blue food coloring and knead until smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Make the Filling: In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until creamy. Fold in the crushed chocolate cookies and mini chocolate chips.
  3. Roll & Fill: On a floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle (14×9 inches). Spread the filling evenly on the dough, then roll tightly into a log. Slice 12 rolls using a serrated knife.
  4. Second Rise & Bake: Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes until doubled in size. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Make the Icing: Beat cream cheese and softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and enough milk for desired consistency.
  6. Assemble & Serve: Drizzle icing over warm rolls and sprinkle with crushed chocolate cookies and mini chocolate chips. Serve warm.

Notes

Make ahead: refrigerate rolled but unbaked rolls overnight. Let rise before baking. These can also be air-fried at 320°F for 15-20 minutes.
