Description
A delicious gourmet steak paired with creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed asparagus makes for an exquisite meal, perfect for special occasions or a comforting dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 steaks (your choice of cut)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 bunch of asparagus, trimmed
- Garlic powder (optional)
- Fresh herbs (like parsley or thyme, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the steaks: Start by seasoning your steaks generously with salt and freshly cracked pepper on both sides. Heat the olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Add the steaks and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, adjusting the time to your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Make the mashed potatoes: In a pot of boiling salted water, add the cubed potatoes and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and return to the pot. Add in the milk and butter, mash until smooth, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Add garlic powder if preferred.
- Sauté the asparagus: In the same skillet used for the steaks, add fresh asparagus and season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until tender yet still crisp.
- Plate and serve: Arrange the cooked steak on a plate, add a scoop of mashed potatoes and a portion of sautéed asparagus. Garnish with fresh herbs.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Prepare the mashed potatoes a few hours in advance – reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave with a splash of milk.
