- 1 lb ground beef or plant-based burger
- 1 medium apple, diced
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 whole wheat burger buns
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- Lettuce leaves for garnish
- Sliced tomatoes for garnish
- Optional: red onion slices
Instructions
- Combine the apple cider, brown sugar, diced apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and reduce for 10 minutes until thickened.
- Mold the ground beef (or plant-based alternative) into four equal patties, sprinkling each with salt and pepper.
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until desired doneness.
- Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover to melt.
- Toast the whole wheat buns for 1-2 minutes on the grill until golden.
- Assemble the burger with the cheesy patty on the bun, drizzling with apple-cider glaze and topping with lettuce, tomatoes, and optional onions.
- Serve immediately to enjoy layered flavors.

For a vegan option, substitute beef with plant-based patties and cheddar cheese with non-dairy alternatives.
